About the station: |
Free FM is a community access media station broadcasting across

podcasts by, for and about real people.
Free FM shows broadcast weekly on 89.0 FM and are podcast on accessmedia.nz and all other podcast platforms.
Free
FM is one of twelve independent Access radio stations operating around
New Zealand, and a member of the Community Access Media Alliance (CAMA).
With support from NZ On Air, Access radio stations provide broadcasting
facilities for individuals or groups not otherwise heard in mainstream
media.
|
About the role: |
The Youth Media Coordinator is responsible for supporting young people
in the Waikato to use the station. This role is focused on building
relationships with young people and organisations and institutions which
work with them to help them get their radio shows to air (and podcast
ideas fulfilled). This might mean supporting them to use the studios, or
to create content off-site using a variety of tools Free FM offers.
The
Youth Media Coordinator is also responsible for music programming in
the Free FM Youth zone (3-4pm weekdays) where no content has been
provided for the programme time.
We know that transport can be a
significant barrier to young people’s involvement at the station, so the
position holder would ideally be able to transport people to and from
the station.
The hours are flexible, however this role is working
with children in education, so needs to be available after school hours
and potentially evenings.
|
Position Purpose: |
Work with the Community Media Coordinator, Māori Media Coordinator and
Programme director to develop new, sustainable Free FM radio shows and
podcasts by people aged 12-20.
Develop networks and relationships
across the youth sector, including with schools, Community Learning
Centres and Youth Agencies to promote youth involvement with the
station.
Recruit and then support youth content makers through
programme development, and continual support to ensure programme
retention.
Work with young broadcasters to promote their Youth Zone shows/podcasts to potential on air and online audiences
Monitor each programme and be prepared to offer encouragement and advice on improvements and programme development.
Ensure
all young broadcasters have an understanding of the Station Rules and
Broadcasting Standards as it applies to their programmes
Develop and
maintain playlists of youth-focused music and other content for use in
programme slots where no original content has been provided
Advancing
Free FM’s goals and ethos, and Access Media principles, by supporting
all objectives outlined in Free FM’s strategic plan.
Assist with development of youth-focused related social media content, including promoting listenership to youth content.
